Catalogue note
Originally introduced in 1977 to commemorate Vacheron Constantin's 222nd anniversary, the Reference 222 represents a pinnacle of 1970s luxury sports watch design. Conceived by a young Jörg Hysek, the 222 brought a sleek, avant guards aesthetic to the historic manufacture, aggressively challenging the status quo of high end horology. Jumbo case crafted entirely from stainless steel, a material historically produced in incredibly limited quantities by the brand. The architecturally striking design is characterized by its signature scalloped, serrated bezel evoking a nautical aesthetic and seamlessly flows into a beautifully integrated, tapering hexagonal link steel bracelet. Positioned uniquely at the lower solid gold miniature Maltese Cross inlay, an enduring hallmark exclusive to the original vintage 222 series.
